First dates are possibly one of the most nerve-wracking experiences you’ll ever go through in life. It’s bad enough that you have to pick out the perfect outfit that states you put a little bit of effort to impress but not too much effort. The doubts and fears that run through your mind (What will we talk about? What if I trip? How awkward is this going to be?) aren’t helping you turn down the anxiety either. But before you even get to the date itself, you’ll need to find that perfect place for the first date. Now, we all know a drink at the bar or a coffee shop is one of the safest and most popular choices for a first date. Not much time commitment, etc. But this is Miami. And the same old places just won’t cut it in these modern times. Below are some quirky, fun places to have your first date where you’ll enjoy yourself whether or not things work out well between you and him/her.
#1: Watch sports game
If both of you love sports, why not cheer for your home team? Miami is home to Miami Heat, Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers, and the Miami Marlins. Not only will the adrenaline rush get rid of any awkwardness and anxiety, the camaraderie fostered during the game will make getting to know each other quick and easy. That is, of course, if you’re rooting for the same team. If not, well, at least you found out during your first date, right?
#2: Get some ice cream at Lulu’s Ice Cream
Unless your date is lactose intolerant, ice cream is a universal love. A trip to a place that serves artisanal ice cream like Lulu’s is never a waste. And just like a drink at a bar, there’s not much of a time commitment if the spark just isn’t there. At least you got some yummy ice cream, right? You can bring a tub home if things fell flat.
#3: People watch in the park
Miami is filled with parks and gardens for your first dates. You can enjoy watching the people at the South Pointe Park while you slowly get to know each other. Maybe bring some snacks to tide you over. As an added bonus, the view at this park is incredible – the sunsets and the cruise ships add fodder to your conversation starter topics.
#4: Visit the Vizcaya museum and gardens.
The European-style gardens and the 34-room estate house are a sight to behold. Exploring them will give you hours of conversation with no awkward pauses in between. The romance of the past might just be the thing to make that first date turn into more.
#5: Go to a masquerade ball
Speaking of the romance from the past, traditional masquerade balls are a glimpse of the medieval ages. And they make perfect romantic first dates for several reasons. One, you get to dress up. Two, you get to wear an exotic mask. And three, the mask gives you a sense of freedom to express yourselves to each other without the awkwardness usually associated with first dates.
#6: Eat at Crazy About You
While this is a little more upscale than some of our suggestions, this is quite possibly the most romantic idea we’ve listed. This restaurant in Brickell provides you with a unique dining experience that even a bad date can’t destroy. The view at night from the romantic bay front terrace will leave you breathless. And if things go really well for you, just think of all those anniversaries you’ll be spending at this romantic restaurant?
